GRADUATION DAY: A DECADE OF DESTRUCTION/TOO MUCH BLOOD ON THE ROAD (SCHOLASTICALLY)

I was going to post a long elaborate post telling the long winding road over the past 10 years in and out of school in attempt to get my Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Iowa. It became far too long so I’ll just stick with this for now and say, yeah, I’m done. I didn’t walk in a ceremony of any kind, that’s for the birds. A few outspoken members of my family really wanted me to walk in the ceremony, but as a reward to myself for plowing through these final roadblocks myself, I decided I wasn’t going to. It hasn’t set in that I’m actually finished. Not sure what I’ll do with all of this extra free time. More writing, more running? I think this Summer’s going to be great. I have some great shows lined up including Deer Tick, Heartless Bastards, Wilco, The Black Keys, and the two motherships: Lollapalooza in August followed by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at Wrigley Field in September. And all of this can be enjoyed, without the dark ominous cloud looming ahead of having to go back to school in the Fall. I’m DONE!

I had 15,000+ songs to choose from when it came to the right song to play after finishing my last test on Thursday. I went with the best, #1 with a bullet. The greatest song of all-time that felt like I was busting outta jail, the most triumphant song ever in my opinion…

I look to the future now with new sense of purpose and hope. Out of the ditch and back on the road, I’ll see you all out there on the highway. As for the immediate future, I think I’m going to get started on round #2 of the celebration. Good night, and good luck.
